Self-care is like being on an airplane right before take off. Everybody has taken their seats, the plane is taxing toward the runway, and the flight attendant dramatically gestures how to fasten our seat belt, showcases the nearest exits, and demonstrates how to put on our oxygen masks in case of an emergency.
She clearly states:
“Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. Please place the mask over your own mouth and nose before assisting others.”
Why? What could possibly be wrong with helping others first? As mothers isn’t this our natural instinct?
In the case of commercial airplanes, oxygen masks are deployed in situations where the oxygen level has dropped dangerously low. Without our oxygen mask, we will quickly lose consciousness. If we don’t make putting on our mask our first priority, we will not be able to help anyone else. In this situation self sacrifice is not honorable, it’s detrimental.
And so it is the same for Self-Care
Self care is letting go of the notion that sacrifice and martyrdom are a noble act. But instead embraces the idea that taking a little time for yourself will nurture you and everyone around you!
In our busy go-go-go lifestyle I think pleasure has become a lost art form. Enjoying the simplistically of slowing down, enjoying in life’s little luxuries, and taking the time to just ‘be’.
You’re what the Self-Care collection is all about.
Helping you to find and cultivate your self-care routine. Whether that is creating a piece of artwork just for the sake of creating; soaking in a bubble bath sprinkled with rose pedals; or writing your inspirations from the day in a gratitude journal; I’m here to assist you in taking care of the most important person in your life, You!
